A Safari With a Difference
Okonjima is particularly known for its specialised wildlife experiences. Guests staying at the reserve can take part in leopard tracking, brown hyena tracking, game and nature drives, night drives, guided nature trails, pangolin tracking and rhino tracking.
Leopard tracking provides an opportunity to venture into the reserve with experienced guides while learning about the long-running leopard research conducted at Okonjima. Because these are wild animals, sightings can never be guaranteed — making every encounter genuinely special.
For something even more unusual, guests can join specialised pangolin tracking experiences, following these elusive animals on foot with a guide and tracker. Rhino tracking also provides an insight into the reserve’s conservation efforts, with guests accompanied by members of Okonjima’s anti-poaching team.
Stay Surrounded by Nature
Okonjima offers a range of accommodation experiences, including the Luxury Bush Camp, Private Bush Suite, African Villa, Plains Camp and private campsites. This allows visitors to choose an experience suited to their style of travel, from a comfortable safari stay to a more private and exclusive retreat.
The African Villa, for example, offers a private setting within the reserve, while the Luxury Bush Camp provides a classic safari atmosphere surrounded by the Namibian wilderness.

The Okonjima experience isn’t limited to looking for wildlife from a vehicle. Guided nature trails allow guests to explore the landscape on foot while learning about the area’s ecosystem and distinctive Etjo Sandstone formations.
As the sun goes down, the reserve takes on an entirely different character. Night drives offer the chance to look for some of Namibia’s nocturnal wildlife and experience the bush after dark.

One of the things that makes Okonjima distinctive is the connection between tourism and conservation. The AfriCat Foundation is based on the reserve and conducts long-term research and conservation work, including projects involving leopard, brown hyena and pangolin.
